API 1104 Welding Procedures vs. ASME Sec IX welding procedures
Additionally, planar reflectors or flat bottom holes shall be installed at the weld center-line position with their flat reflecting surfaces vertical to the weld. All 36 API Standard 1104 reflectors should be spaced apart so that no two will be within the beam spread of one probe simultaneously. AWS live seminars offer training to navigate the D1.1 Structural Steel and API 1104 codes, but you have the option to take the exam to other standards as well. These include D1.2, D1.5, D15.1, D17.1, and ASME B31.1 & B31.3.
API 1104 Welding Procedures vs. ASME Sec IX welding procedures
Hey guys,
I have to make a couple of API-1104 welding procedures for a project we are going to be working on, and was hoping to get some insight on the differences in the codes and what each code requires. I am extremely familiar with ASME Sec IX but I dont do much work with API-1104. Could someone please explain the major differences? and if possible is there a simple way to convert from one code to another (for example... I have a standard 6010 - 7018 SEC IX procedure, what would be the additional requirements to requalify this procedure to API-1104?)
I realize that the API-1104 codes are generally more suited for pipeline welding (since they allow downhand) and are not as strict on the NDE requirements.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Rob
